Relax With Moroccan Mint Tea

Relax With Moroccan Mint Tea

Mint Tea is refreshing to drink and a classic Moroccan ritual.

It's easy to make your own at home:

INGREDIENTS

1 handful of fresh mint sprigs – don’t hold back!

Tip – cut them to fit in your teapot and leave some to garnish your glass

1 heaped teaspoon loose green or gunpowder tea

500ml boiling water

3 large spoonfuls of sugar (this is traditionally very sweet tea, but you can choose to use less sugar to your taste)

MAKING THE TEA

Boil water.

Add loose tea to a teapot (preferably metal but ceramic will also work) – you can put the tea in a diffuser if you want to keep the tea leaves from escaping.

Add some boiled water to cover the tea or diffuser and swirl a few times – this cleans the tea leaves.  Then discard the water, keeping the leaves in the pot.

Add the fresh mint and sugar to the teapot.

Fill the pot with boiled water.

Allow to stand, or ‘steep’, for 5 minutes.

Stir gently to ensure the sugar has dissolved.

Pour into glasses, lifting the pot from a height so froth forms on the top of the glass as you pour.

Add some fresh mint leaves to increase the minty aroma.

Enjoy alone or with some delicate pastries or biscuits.
